BTC -  12/7/2006

SOFIA (Bulgaria), December 5 (SeeNews) - Bulgarian telecommunications group BTC plans to open a $11 million (8.3 million euro) international call centre in the country next year, a senior company official said on Tuesday.

"We are in negotiations at the moment with four major clients,I can say one is from Sweden, which is a broadband Internet provider in the Swedish market, the other is a global IT company, probably the biggest in the world, one is one of the low-cost airlines, it is probably bigger than Ryanair, and also with lastminute.com," director of BTC International Contact Centres Jon Gladwish told SeeNews.

BTC hopes to sign the contracts with these companies in the first quarter of 2007 and open the international call centre in April or May next year.

"We want 275 [people] for the low-cost airline, [...] for the IT company it's up to 90 by the end of next year, for the others it could be almost a thousand. It's about $8,000 per seat, it's the capital investment for our call centres here," Gladwish said.

He added BTC has invested some 1.3 million euro so far in its existing international call centre in Sofia, in which some 180 people work.

The call centre serves global money transfer service provider MoneyGram International Inc., Hotelopia, part of Britains First Choice Holidays Plc that sells hotel rooms to leisure and business travellers over the Internet, insurer American International Group (AIG) and U.K. Internet services provider Be Unlimited. The call centre's staff is expected to rise to 400 by the end of 2007, BTC said in a statement.
